Embedded Parts (Eps) Design & Optimization
All Energy Generation Units such as thermal power plants, nuclear power plants (NPPs), oil & gas assets have large, heavy equipment like Pumps, Compressors, Turbines, Tanks, Heat exchangers, piping systems, etc. All loads including dead wright of equipment, operating loads, sustained loads, earthquake loads, etc of the equipment & pipelines will eventually be transferred to the floor / concrete through embedded parts (or embedments). Loads coming from the equipment on to the EPs is calculated by dynamic finite element analysis (FEA). Embedded Parts (EPs) are designed & optimised to be strong enough to bear all the applicable loads coming from the equipment. ProSIM is supporting its customers in design & optimization of Embedded Parts.
Any structural member, plate, angle, channel, pipe sleeve or other section anchored to a concrete structure through direct bond or other anchors is an Embedded Part. The concrete & Reinforcing steel will be checked for the Pull-out, Bending, Shear & Bering strength. EPs play a very important role in the overall structural integrity of an equipment/piping during a seismic activity, especially for nuclear power plant related entities. Embedded Parts (Anchor & Anchorage) design is done using ACI-349 (appendix-B) & AERB-SS-CSE-4 codes, IS 5620 (Section 6.2) or similar standards.
Anchorage Design is done for Steel strength & Concrete Strength. In other words, the weak link in the anchorage design should be the steel element. Different Failure modes of Anchor are Anchor (steel) pullout failure, Anchor(steel) shear failure, Concrete breakout failure, Concrete pryout failure, Side-face blowout failure & Concrete splitting failure.
