STRUCTURAL INTRGRITY EVALIATION OF LIQUIFICATION TANK

ProSIM works as Engineering Design Consultants to provide complex solutions to critical
challenges faced by customers. Having extensive capabilities in fitness for service evaluation
ProSIM was able to provide an indepth solution for a prestigious biofuels customer.
The customer had recently faced a critical production halt due to a structural crack in the conical
section of their Initial Liquefaction Tank (ILT). This unexpected failure, caused by a high-
pressure pulsation from rapid steam condensation, significantly disrupted operations. ProSIM
engineering team responded to the customer’s emergency with a detailed onsite diagnostics of
the situation and realized that to identify the problem, replicating the actual functioning of the
tank had to be performed through CAE Services which included comprehensive Computational
Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI).
ProSIM having expertise as FEA Engineering Consultants were able to identify the reason for
the structural crack and that the original tank shell was under-designed, requiring a significant
reinforcement in critical areas to handle the pressure loads safely. ProSIM recommended
necessary design reinforcements to the tank.
As a result of our thorough analysis, the customer was able to finalize a new tank design that met
the required structural integrity to avoid similar issues in the future. This new design not only
solved the immediate problem but also provided a solid foundation for future site erections,
ensuring the customer could proceed with their biofuel production without interruptions.
